The title of Edgar Allan Poe for some time now, had it's place on my bookshelf. Finally we found a way to meet each other. The main artwork in this edition is the narrative poem "The Raven". This is a typical and specific piece of Poe's literary style. I think it's impossible to read that poem and not have any deeper feelings. From the first words you crush into world of mystery, pain, madness and supernatural atmosphere. "The Raven" depicts a talking raven visiting miserable, unfortunate lover and leading him straight to a hard delirium. The lover is emotionally broken and he is lamenting about the loss of his love- Lenore. The minor dramatic tension imparts a word "nevermore", which seems to be the only word a raven knows. In the raven's mouth this word with every time he repeats, feels more and more painful. The narrator of a poem deals with contrary emotions, such as desire to forget and desire to remember. The narrator begins as weak and weary and then he becomes regretful and comes straight into final madness.
When I was reading this poem I could really feel the pain of a narrator. During reading you will get so strong, non-positive emotions such as pain, sadness and sometimes even depressive thoughts. To be honest while reading it I become a little sad, once I even wanted to cry. I couldn't stop thinking about his loss, about how much he loved Lenore and that he will not see her ever again. So if you ever been heartbroken, you can totally jump into his broken heart and feel exactly like him, and your impression will be full of understanding.
If you are looking for a piece, which can give you only positive experience- this poem and creativity of Edgar Allan Poe is just not for you. His body of work mirrors traumatic events he has been through during his childhood and it had big impact on his writing and his view of world, people. Every piece of Poe is pretty depressive, sad, full of madness and will give you a bunch of strong, more negative feelings. Even though it's very valuable for your senses. In this edition you can also find another selected poems of Edgar Allan Poe. They are very similar to "The Raven" in writing style and experience during reading. Poems are short, but full of emotions, full of pain, full of regret. You can totally get into Poe's world of pain, depression, value of loss and regret. Maybe this is not a happy, colorful world but your senses and mind will explode as well from power of his word.
