"Everything was dead, everything unreal; the dark mob was made up of stiff lay figures".

With these words John Steinbeck invites us to his world of short stories.

I have a pocket edition of "The Vigilante". This is actually pretty good and comfortable solution,

if you don't like e-books when you are out or in the trip.

This small pocket edition contains three short stories written by John Steinbeck.

I'm not gonna give you the titles of stories or I am not gonna tell you exactly what's inside this edition. I will just tell you in general, because I want to fire up your curiosity and imagination.

In these short stories the author takes us to the world of unsettling and creepy atmosphere, racism, violence and female inhibition.

The first and the second story follows us to very strange sensation of curiosity mixed with insecurity and incomprehension because of the events and characters. Then with these strong and weird experience we are being quieted with the third- last story, which provides us to outwardly easygoing story about female misunderstood and complicated inner feelings and vibes.

In general, these three stories can draw in front of us the gate to the world of very strange, totally different in kind and richness emotions; mix of curiosity, incomprehension, fear or odd-looking impression.

For me this is the perfect combination. At first strong climb and later getting calm. Steinbeck is also very real and rich in details, in my opinion. Still the best part of this small collection is the feeling he leaves us with, after every story. Anything isn't finished and when you are on the last page, you regret somehow this is over, you would like to read more and more what happens next. To be honest all three stories are good for the whole book. For me this is very good thing that John Steinbeck leaves us without an answer after every story, because he is giving us the opportunity to make our own scenarios, to dive further and deeper into our imagination. The end of story is up to us in some way. This is what I love the most in reading.
